My name is Lisa L. Thompson, a product of Prince Georges County, Suitland High School and Bowie State University. In 2011, I found out I had Stage 3 Breast Cancer. I did everything I could possibly do to live. I had no choice but to fight. I have a 13-year-old daughter (Liyah) and 2 bonus sons (Jason and Jordan), from a previous marriage. I had 5 months of chemotherapy and 6 weeks of radiation. To top it off, I had a bi-lateral mastectomy. Several surgeries, a lot of pain, sleepless night and scared children, the cancer returned in 2015. It spread to the brain, bones, spine and lungs. Stage 4 and the fight begins again. The goal was now not to cure me but to keep me alive as long as they can. They gave me until Christmas of 2015 to live but here I am. The doctors have tried everything they can the past year and a half but now has come the time when nothing can help with the cancer spreading in my brain. I was given an option to go to Boston for a clinical trial I’m qualified for. It will take money for co-pays, lodging, travel, and meds on top of the medical bills I’ve already occurred. I had to retired from the federal government in 2016 after 23 years of service. My heart is heavy but I have faith the God will see me through. He chose me and I’ve been fighting every since.
