USM Husky Veterans (USM Chapter of Student Veterans of America)
The University of Southern Maine’s chapter of SVA was established in 2015. The Student Veterans of America (SVA) is a national advocacy group with a mission "to provide support to veteran, active duty, and dependent students in ALL aspects of life.
The national group's guiding vision is that all veterans will succeed in higher education, achieve their academic goals, and gain meaningful employment.
The founding members were focused on personal and professional development.
The USM Husky Veterans have developed several general goals. This fundraiser will help us to accomplish our goals some of which include:
• Developing, funding, and maintaining a scholarship fund for student-veterans who have exhausted their education benefits.
• Providing planning and funding for events, facilities, supplies, and activities that make healthy opportunities available for student-veterans transitioning from the military to civilian AND student life to connect and add value within their communities.
• Offering professional-class office services and facilities to student-veterans who are building their professional networks, investing time to meet academic requirements, and engaging with other students.
• Providing an environment that fosters student-veteran success by strengthening the connections between USM's Veterans Services Office, Green Zone teacher training, the Peer Advisors for Veteran Education (PAVE) program, student-veteran orientation. and the USM Husky Veterans,
