In November, 2016, Russ developed a Stage 1A Seminoma. While aggressive, it was contained in the area and the mass and cancer was removed with surgery!
For just over a year, Russ was cancer free. But a routine CT Scan in December, 2017, showed some growth in his retroperintineal lymph node. A small enough growth that the oncologist decided that he'd like to wait for several months to check if there was a growth rate on this mass.
After the follow-up scan, we discovered that Russ's mass has grown quite aggressively, from 1.5cm x 1.5cm x 1.2cm to 3.5cm x 3.5cm x 3.2cm. Unfortunately, that means that chemotherapy is now required.
Russ will be starting chemo on June 11, 2018. It will be a 9 week treatment regimen. He will have to spend three separate weeks in Salt Lake, Monday through Friday, to receive the largest doses of his treatment. While it is very fortunate that this form of cancer is highly curable, the financial stress is weighing Russ and his family quite a lot.
The wonderful charity, The Hope Lodge, is giving Russ room and board in Salt Lake City during his treatments. Russ is also looking into booking flights with Mercy Flight West to get him to Salt Lake and back every week.
Russ is the provider of a little family of four. He will likely be too sick and in need of recovery during his off weeks during treatment to work. He has been assured that his job will hold his position, which is another wonderful blessing. Katie, Russ's wife, is also looking for a summer job to help relieve some of the financial stress, but with two young children to look after, this search is proving a little bit difficult. She's still searching.
If you are willing to donate to this cause, Russ and his family would be so grateful.
Thank you for all of your kindness, prayers, and assistance!
