Arleen is an experimental artist who helped foster the East Village art scene in the 70s and 80s through her loft called A's, as well as other events and performances. Over 1,000 artists, performers, musicians, writers and poets owe their success to Arleen.
Among the artists who staid and performed at A's were Jean Michael Basquiat (SAMO) and Eva-Maria Gößling who performed with the German punk band Mania D and made music with Basquiat under the name Man Made. When Eva had to return to Berlin, Basquiat inscribed a suitcase for her, so she could take him with her. In 2014 Eva had the suitcase photographed by artist Thomas Ruff.
The winner of the raffle ($10) will win the unique signed print (50x40 cm / 19.7x 15.7") of the Ruff photograph. Consolation prizes will be 24 small editioned prints of the image (21 x 29 cm / 8,27 x 11,42”).
Arleen traveled the world with her performances, installations, experimental work and video art. The New York Times called her work "much superior to most performance art" and White Hot Magazine referred to Arleen as "a national treasure."
