Born a Preemie, Raised a Scholar
An estimated 15 million babies are born too early every year. That is more than 1 in 10 babies. Almost 1 million children die each year due to complications of preterm birth. Many survivors face a lifetime of disability, including learning disabilities and visual and hearing problems.
My daughter Attiyana “Amira” was born at 24 weeks, weighed 484 grams (1lb 3oz), and measured 11.5 inches. Our family is grateful for her life, she is our miracle. As a two income family, we still had difficulty meeting her hearing and educational expenses. My husband and I understand the financial struggle families might experience and we want Preemies to Scholars to be an additional resource for families all over the world.
It's simple, we are establishing a program that is close to us due to our experiences; and supports our passion of serving our communities. We want to do something that is bigger than "us" and reaches more people than we could imagine.
This raffle will support start up costs for our new non-profit scholarship program "Preemies to Scholars". Thank you for supporting our cause.
We look forward to announcing our 1st scholarship opportunity for the 2015/2016 Academic year.
