My family and I have formed a team for Bike MS in memory of my late mother, Susan Ellen Fedele. My mother passed away in September of 2014 after a twenty-three year fight with Multiple Sclerosis, a disease she fought with class and dignity. Susan was not your average woman. She was the eldest daughter of Ann and William Foeri, the remarkable and fearless sister of five siblings, the wife of a cardiologist and the extraordinary mother of three. Susan never lived a dull moment.
In 1991, during a game of tennis, my mother’s favorite sport, she suddenly dropped her tennis racket and couldn't pick it back up. Soon after, my mother was officially diagnosed with secondary progressive Multiple Sclerosis. Through the years her illness progressed but her spirit grew. She tried alternative therapies, chemotherapy and natural remedies - anything she could do to slow down the progression of her disease. During the last few years of her fight, even after Multiple Sclerosis took away her ability to walk, feed herself, or bathe herself, she never once let MS get the best of her.
In September of 2014, we lost my mother to this horrible illness.
Throughout her fight against Multiple Sclerosis, my mother lived by the words, “Do what you can every- day and throw the rest away,” a saying that will forever be engrained in my mind and heart. My mother is an inspiration to me, my family and anyone with whom she came in contact with. I am riding for my hero, Susan Ellen Fedele, and for all those affected by Multiple Sclerosis. All funds raised by my team will help the National MS Society fund research, advocate for change and help people with MS live their best lives. Your gift helps support cutting-edge research and programs and services for everyone impacted by MS. Ending MS means no one will receive an MS diagnosis again. Every dollar helps. Every connection matters.
