Piper's Cambodia World Challenge
Hi my name is Piper. In November 2016, together with 14 other students from Townsville and Perth, i will be travelling to Cambodia and Laos to complete a 3 week World Challenge Expedition.
World Challenge's are student enrichment programs where participants complete community, environmental and cultural projects in remote communities, with an ephasis on sustainability and grass roots community development.

Throughout the 3 weeks i will be carrying everything i need in a 65L backpack including my sleeping hammock, mozzie net, cooking utensils, first aid equiptment, clothing and food.

I will spend 5 days trekking the Ban Kietnong Circuit, sleeping on hammocks in the jungle of the Xe Pian National Park, examining the habitat of at least 29 different ecosystems including those which house globally endangered species of birds and mammals.

With a focus on Community Engagement i will be working with grass roots organisations that are improving community and educational facilities, and will spend a week working to improve agricultural yields & sustainable practices , such as mushroom farming.
During this week, i will also be volunteering within the village to complete unfinished projects which could include repainting school buildings, doing blockwork for sanitation and wash area or pave footpaths for children to commute to school.
There will also be an opportunity for us challengers to spend time with local children and the wider community, where we will organise fun, active and educational activities such as teaching English and playing sport as 'Play' is important for the childrens health and development.

I will be visiting UNESCO World Heritage site, Angkor which is one of the most significant archaeological sites in South-East Asia before moving onto to the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum to explore the quite recent and tragic history of the Khmer Rouge Regime.
Raffle River has helped Piper's Cambodia World Challenge raise $29 and host 1 raffle.
