On May 9, 2015, Nicholas Yarter, a 17 year-old Sturbridge, MA resident and TRHS senior sustained a catastrophic spinal cord injury in a swimming pool accident which has left him paralyzed from the chest down. After spending 13 days in ICU and undergoing multiple surgeries at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, MA, he was taken by medi-flight to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Nick spent his summer in an intense rehabilitation program before returning to his family home and school. He spends an average of 15-20 hours per week in physical, occupational, and exercise therapy programs at home and in NH.
