CDO Mangalot in Ann Arbor
The students from Capoeira International CDO Mangalot, with the guidance of Contra Mestre Lobinho, are organizing the Brazilian Roots 2016 event, the largest capoeira event to be held in Ann Arbor. This event will be held from September 29 to October 1, 2016, at the Michigan Union Ballroom at University of Michigan.
Important guests, and teachers (Masters) are invited from all around the world to give world-class workshops of capoeira, instruments and samba. The event is open to the public and will be tailored to children, adults and people with special needs. In this sponsorship package, we are requesting funds to support the Brazilian Roots
2016 event organized by our students.
We expect that more than 80 people from the Ann Arbor and surrounding areas will participate. Our estimated budget is over $20,000, which includes guest instructor’s transportation and fees, food, venue rental, advertising and equipment needed.
Our group’s goal is to promote capoeira as a fitness alternative and to create a community while learning a new culture, traditions and language. By helping us, you are directly sponsoring a healthy lifestyle and camaraderie among individuals from all backgrounds.
What is Capoeira:
An Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity- By The United Nations Educational,
Scientific and Cultural Organization
"Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian cultural practice –simultaneously a fight and a dance – that can be interpreted as a tradition, a sport and even an art form. Capoeira players form a circle at the center of which two players engage with one another. The movements require great bodily dexterity. The other players around the circle sing, chant, clap and play percussive instruments. Capoeira circles are formed by a group of
people of any gender, and comprise a master, counter master and disciples."
