Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Pine Belt
Big Brothers Big Sisters is the oldest, largest and most effective youth mentoring organization in the United States. National research has shown that positive relationships between youth and their Big Brothers and Big Sisters have a direct and measurable impact on children's lives. Little Brothers and Sisters are:
• More confident in their schoolwork performance
• Able to get along better with their families
• 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
• 27% less likely to begin using alcohol
• 52% less likely to skip school
Big Brothers Big Sisters matches children ages 5 through 15 with mentors in professionally supported one-to-one relationships. Volunteering is fun! Being a Big Brother or Big Sister is one of the most rewarding and enjoyable things you will ever do. It's easy, too. Your Little can join you for the kinds of activities you already like to do, such as:
• Shooting hoops
• Playing a board game
• Sharing a pizza
• Taking a walk in the park
• Or just hanging out and talking.
Just 4 hours a month (the minimum of time BBBS asks from a volunteer) can change a young child's life. A volunteer has the opportunity to select the age of the child he/she is matched with.BBBS. They need the friendship and guidance of someone like YOU.
"As a Big, you're simply a friend. Your friendship fits your lifestyle. Busy people of all ages can get involved-choose the program that works best for you!"
We're here to help.
Have a question? Don't worry. Our trained staff will be happy to guide you through the application process. And when it's time to make a match we'll help you meet a Little in your area who shares your interests - and we'll support you all the way. We'll even give you some great ideas for activities that other Bigs and Littles have enjoyed through the years!
